The newly-appointed ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Canada, dr. Melita Gabrič, submitted her credentials to Governor General of Canada, Julie Payette.

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, welcomed the ambassador to Canada. She underlined the desire for even stronger bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Slovenia was described as a successful, similarly minded country, which plays an important central role at a juncture between the Mediterranean and the Balkans. Canada and Slovenia cooperate extremely well on the multilateral level, especially in the field of human rights and the rule of law. She is convinced that Slovenia and Canada will deepen their contacts and cooperation. At the end of the conversation, the General Governor wished the ambassador, dr. Gabrič, successful work and a pleasant stay in Canada.

The ambassador Dr. Melita Gabrič also emphasized friendly relations between the two countries and agreed that participation in multilateral frameworks (UN) is very extensive. She pointed out the fact that more than 40,000 people, who are Slovenian citizens or of Slovenian origin, live in Canada, according to some unofficial data. The ambassador will work to strengthen contacts between the countries in the economic and other markets, as well as for an even greater exchange of visits by the top representatives of the two countries.
