Ambassador's greeting

Dear visitor,

Welcome to the website of the Slovenian Embassy in Canada.

I am pleased to present you our website where you can find useful information about relations between Slovenia and Canada as well as about Slovenia itself - a relatively young country in the heart of Europe. It is an honor to address you as a new Slovenian Ambassador after more than two years of absence of the highest diplomatic representative. This is a proof that Slovenia understands the importance of bilateral relations between the two countries and also recognizes the value of close relationship with the Slovenian community in Canada.

Slovenia and Canada are long term partners and likeminded allies in many areas of international cooperation as for example human rights, particularly the rights of women and children, climate change, ICC, the role of the UN in a changing World and others. Slovenia as an EU member state is also closely involved into EU - Canada dialogue and welcomes the recent conclusion of the Strategic Partnership Agreement as well as CETA. As for the latter we believe it can make an important contribution to the strengthening of economic cooperation to the mutual benefit of the people across the Atlantic.

I believe that with stronger diplomatic presence in Canada relations between our two countries will grow to a new higher level by intensifying exchange of high level visits, business delegations, cultural, scientific and academic exchange and people to people exchange. But the Embassy itself cannot do all the work and therefore I count very much on close cooperation with our three Honorary Consuls, on Slovenian business community which I hope will strengthen its presence in Canada in the future and of course on Slovenian community that is present around Canada.

My hopes are based on the fact that already decades ago, before Slovenian independence our people were actively contributing to Canada's development and preservation of its heritage. Later on there were new generations from different walks of life, from scientists to artists that were involved into development of the Canadian society.

Slovenia wishes to attract more Canadian investors and our Government has already prepared a list of state owned companies to be sold with the others to follow. My hopes are that this will be a motivation for them to explore new business opportunities. We would also like to welcome more Canadian tourists in our naturally very diverse country, enriched by hospitable people and delicious food. The Embassy will encourage tourist agencies to be more active on Canadian market as well as encourage Slovenian artists to present their art to the Canadian audience to make it more interested in Slovenia.

While you are always welcome to visit our Embassy in person, I look forward to our fruitful cooperation.
